Fashion does not exist only in your dresses or clothes, fashion is in the way you live, in the street, everywhere around you. As a fashion lover, you must be following many fashion designers, festivals, and fashion magazines where journalists share fashion ideas and trends, but have you ever decided which fashion movie inspires you the most and makes it your favorite one?
Whether you are planning to stay home this Saturday night or you are sick in bed just like me (yup, fashion month got the best of me in the end!), here’s a short list of those which are in my opinion the 6 best fashion movies ever. Do you have another I should add to the list? Any tip for tonight’s sick-in-bed marathon is welcome!
Devil Wears Prada
This is not just another movie about fashion; this is the best of all fashion movies ever. The movie is based on a novel written by Lauren Weisberger, who was a real-life personal assistant to Anna Wintour (a US Vogue editor chief). Anne Hathaway was the one who had the role that a million girls would kill for it.
She was the graduate assistant to Miranda Priestly in a high fashion magazine. An American comedy-drama that has received many positive reviews from movie critics all around the world, and also many award nominations, including the Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for the best actress.
When watching the Devil Wears Prada, you will have a feeling like all the fashion world is situated in one place. This movie is a proper example of learning how to find a balance between work, social life, and fashion. Download it and watch it, you definitely won’t regret it.
Coco Avant Chanel
Coco Avant Chanel is probably my favorite among all. Coco Avant Chanel is a French movie about the early life of famed French fashion designer Coco Chanel. Gabrielle/Coco was a real self-made hero and no one could have impersonated Coco better than Audrey Tautou. Watch it (if you haven’t) to get into the designer’s life and learn more about her point of view and unconventional ideas.
Yves Saint Laurent
“A look at the life of French designer Yves Saint Laurent from the beginning of his career in 1958 when he met his lover and business partner, Pierre Berge.” source: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2707858/ The evolution of an icon. It had to be one of my 6 best fashion movies!
Bill Cunningham – New York
This is a documentary about a personality I love in fashion today. Bill is a fashion street style photographer that made history, also known for his articles on the New York Times. I actually got the chance to get shot by him and meet him, which made me appreciate his work and talent even more (he’s probably the kindest person I’ve ever met in the fashion industry!). As Anna Wintour said: “We all get dressed for Bill”.
The September Issue
The September Issue is an American documentary film that follows editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and her staff during the production of the September 2007 issue of American Vogue magazine. The film features important personalities from the world of fashion, from models to designers to photographers. A movie that truly takes you behind the scenes!
A personal portrait of the reserved Karl Lagerfeld, the movie is the result of three long years of work and over three hundred hours of footage. Rudolph Marconi reveals the daily life of Karl through his lens. Have you already watched it?
